About Us

Our Mission

The mission of the Literacy Program of Greater Plymouth is to provide adults in the greater Plymouth area the opportunity to develop and improve the life skills and literacy skills needed to achieve personal growth, to further their education, to seek better employment, and to benefit their overall quality of life.

Adult Basic Education

Over the years, our Adult Education Program at the Plymouth Public Library has helped hundreds of people in the greater Plymouth area obtain a High School Equivalency Diploma. Massachusetts residents have the option of taking the HiSET or GED test. Passing either test will earn you the same Massachusetts diploma. Our free classes are open to any adult (16+) Massachusetts resident.

We invite anyone interested in attending our free classes to attend a New Student Orientation. Orientations are held once per month from August through March at the Plymouth Public Library.  During the orientation, participants learn about our program and take some short assessments for class placement. We offer three levels of classes to meet everyone’s individual needs. We offer day and evening classes.

ESL/ESOL

The adult tutoring program offers free, individualized, confidential, one-to-one tutoring in basic English literacy skills, as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).  Tutoring takes place at the Plymouth Public Library at a time convenient for the learner and the tutor. Free tutoring is available to any adult (18+) who lives or works in Plymouth.

High beginner ESL Day and Evening classes also available to adult Massachusetts residents.
